Dragon Fruit Leather is a vibrant, naturally sweet snack made from pureed dragon fruit, gently dried into a chewy, fruit-packed strip.
With its intense colour and subtle tropical flavour, it’s a healthy treat that’s as eye-catching as it is delicious.
Perfect for lunchboxes, hiking, or an afternoon pick-me-up, dragon fruit leather is a great way to use up ripe fruit and reduce waste.
The texture is soft and flexible, with a gentle chew and a hint of tang from a touch of citrus. Whether you enjoy it on its own or combine it with other fruits like mango or banana, this homemade fruit leather is a nourishing alternative to sugary snacks – and a fun project for the whole family!
Ingredients:
- 1 cups fresh dragon fruit (any variety – red, pink, or white)
- 1 cup Fresh Mango
- 1 cup Strawberry
If you don't have the above fruit you can replace with your favorite fruit
- 1–2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
- 1 teaspoon lemon or lime juice (helps preserve color and brighten flavor)
Instructions:
-
Prep the Fruit:
-
Scoop the flesh from your dragon fruit and place it in a blender.
-
Add honey/maple syrup and lemon juice.
-
Blend until completely smooth.
- Repeat for each fruit
-
-
Strain (Optional):
-
For a smoother leather, you can strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove some of the seeds. This step is totally optional – many people love the seeds!
-
-
Spread:
-
Pour the purée onto a parchment-lined dehydrator tray or a baking tray with a silicone mat.
-
Spread evenly to about 3mm (1/8 inch) thick – not too thin at the edges.
-
-
Dry:
-
Dehydrator: Dry at 55–60°C (130–140°F) for 6–10 hours, until it’s dry to the touch and peels off easily.
-
Oven Method: Use the lowest setting (often around 60°C/140°F) with the door slightly ajar. Dry for 4–8 hours, checking regularly.
-
-
Cool & Cut:
-
Let cool completely.
-
Peel off the sheet, cut into strips, and roll them up with parchment paper if desired.
-
-
Store:
-
Store in an airtight container at room temp for up to 1 week or refrigerate for longer freshness. You can also freeze for extended storage!
-
Tips:
-
Add a sprinkle of shredded coconut before drying for texture.
-
Use overripe fruit to reduce waste and boost sweetness naturally.
