North Queensland Red features red flesh with red skin, producing vibrant and visually appealing fruit. The plant is fast-growing with thick, sturdy branches, making it a robust option for both backyard and commercial growers.
It produces a white flower and is believed to be closely related to Bundy Red, a variety originally produced by Prickly Patch. We are currently growing it separately from Bundy Red to compare traits and confirm similarities. In our experience so far, North Queensland Red produces better fruit quality than Colombian Supreme Red.
Although it has shown slightly higher rust susceptibility compared to other varieties, it has displayed excellent productivity. While not officially tested for pollination status, it has set fruit on every flower without any hand pollination, suggesting self-fertility.
