Hylocereus Purpusii Dragon fruit

Hylocereus purpusii – Red Maroon / Purple Dragon Fruit

Hylocereus purpusii is a vigorous and distinctive dragon fruit species producing elongated fruit rather than the more common round shape. The fruit features red to purple flesh, red skin, and striking green fins, giving it strong visual appeal both on the plant and at harvest.

This variety produces a beautiful white night-blooming flower and has shown natural fruit set without hand pollination when bees are present. While sources list it as self-pollinating, good pollinator activity clearly supports reliable fruit set. It is also regarded as more cold-tolerant than many other dragon fruit varieties, making it a valuable option for cooler microclimates.

Fruit has a thick skin (around 4 mm) and firm flesh. Our first fruit weighed 165 g, with larger fruit expected as the plant becomes more established. Second Year fruit was 200-300g Budding and fruiting have been observed across November, December, January, and February, indicating a long productive window.
