Asunta 5 Dragon Fruit

(Philippines TLM)

Botanical lineage: Hylocereus stenopterus × Hylocereus guatemalensis
New Variety 2023 flowered 2024

Asunta 5 is a striking and highly regarded dragon fruit variety, prized for both its flavour and ornamental appeal. The fruit features magenta-coloured flesh with red fins, displaying a beautiful two-tone gradient that fades from a deeper red to lighter shades through the flesh.

The plant produces a stunning variegated pink and white flower and is known for its very robust stems, making it a strong and reliable grower under Queensland conditions.

This variety is self-sterile and requires cross-pollination for fruit set.

Sourced from a Queensland grower, it has shown excellent performance in warm, humid climates, including South East Queensland.

A visual cue for ripeness is the distinct skin colour change in the final five days before harvest, making timing easier for growers.
