Dun peas are a cool-season legume grown as a companion crop, ground cover or green manure. Their leafy growth helps cover bare soil, while their roots can support nitrogen fixation when the appropriate soil bacteria are present.
Sow between garden rows or in resting beds, allowing room around your main crops to reduce competition for water and light. Cut plants before seed maturity and leave the foliage on the soil as mulch, or incorporate it as green manure.
Growing tips: Plant in a sunny position with well-drained soil during the cooler months. Keep moist while establishing and provide support if you want upright growth.
