Asunta 5 Ventura is an exceptional dragon fruit variety developed by renowned hybridiserEdgar Valdivia, a member of the California Rare Fruit Growers organisation. It is an improved selection fromAsunta 4, pollinated withTricia, combining the genetics ofSelenicereus guatemalensis andSelenicereus stenopterus.
This variety produces attractive white flowers but isself-sterile, meaning it requires cross-pollination with a compatible variety to achieve reliable fruit set.
One of the standout features of Asunta 5 Ventura is its impressive fruit size. The fruit typically weighs680 g to 1 kg (1.5–2.2 lb), making it noticeably larger than its sister seedlings, includingAsunta 5 Sunset Sherbet andAsunta 5 Paco.
