Halley’s Comet is a striking dragon fruit variety created by Paul Thompson in Florida, USA. It produces large fruit exceeding 500 g, with deep purple flesh and red skin, making it a standout both visually and on the plate.
This variety features a classic white night-blooming flower with a yellow–green calyx and has a fast maturity time of approximately 38 days from flowering to harvest. Plants perform well in full sun and develop a thicker skin, helping protect the fruit and improve handling.
Halley’s Comet is self-sterile and requires cross-pollination, although it has been known to self-pollinate occasionally under favourable conditions.
• Brix: ~20
• Medium to firm flesh
• Crunchy seeds
• Bold flavour profile with strong stone fruit notes, sitting between sweet plum and nectarine
• Very sweet with a pleasant tangy finish
Halley’s Comet is an excellent choice for both commercail and backyard dragon fruit growers seeking large, high-Brix fruit with rich, complex flavour and fast turnaround from flower to harvest.
