Peruvian White Dragon Fruit

Description:

Peruvian White Dragon Fruit (Hylocereus peruvianus)

Planted September 2023
First buds formed December 2024

The Peruvian White Dragon Fruit is a distinctive variety from the genus Hylocereus and species peruvianus. This terrestrial dragon fruit naturally occurs in open woodland regions along Peru’s northern coast, from the Sechura area to the Río Saña Valley, where it has adapted to warm conditions and well-drained soils.

This variety produces fruit with a bright pink exterior and contrasting green fins, enclosing clean white, very juicy flesh. It is self-pollinating, making it suitable for both backyard growers and small commercial plantings.

Growth habit and flower form are typical of Hylocereus types, however stem development is noticeably slower than Hylocereus undatus, taking more time to mature and harden off. This variety was acquired from a New South Wales grower and is now being evaluated under South East Queensland conditions.
