Purple Megalanthus- Colombian dragon fruit H. megalanthus.

Purple Megalanthus – Description:

Purple Megalanthus is a unique hybrid of the yellow Colombian dragon fruit (H. megalanthus) and is considered a sister variety to the traditional yellow megalanthus. Also known as Strawberry Megalanthus, this variety produces small, thornless fruit with excellent flavour and strong visual appeal.

Although commonly believed within the Australian dragon fruit community to require cross-pollination, our experience has been different. Our plant has set fruit without hand-pollination, and the commercial farm we sourced it from also reported successful natural fruit set. We will continue trialling and documenting pollination behaviour to provide clarity for growers.

The plant features thin dark-green branches, produces a white flower, and has small spikes at the base of the fruit.
Sourced from a Sunshine Coast commercial grower.
