Hana Hybrid – Hylocereus monacanthus. Dragon Fruit

Description:
True Hana is a unique dragon fruit variety that originated on the island of Maui, Hawaii. This plant is believed to be a seed-grown hybrid from the Hana line, and while it carries the Hana characteristics, it may not be a true clone of the original Hana variety.

The plant is a fast-growing dragon fruit producing beautiful rose-like flowers that open a soft light pink and fade to white toward the centre. The flowers are also lightly fragrant, adding ornamental value during the flowering season.

The fruit develops with red skin and fins and deep purple flesh, creating a colourful and attractive fruit. Fruit size is generally smaller, with our first fruit weighing around 230 g, though we expect fruit size to increase as the plant matures.

Buds typically begin appearing from late December through January and February, making it a mid-season flowering variety in warm climates.

While this variety is believed to be self-fertile, this has not yet been fully tested.
