Description:
Ocamponis Dragon Fruit – Hylocereus ocamponis
This dragon fruit is a hybrid of H. ocamponis, a species originally endemic to Mexico.
Ocamponis produces medium-sized fruit (300–400g). Our first fruit weighed 376g.
The fruit has deep red flesh with a unique salmon-toned skin, making it a very attractive variety.
One of the most striking features of this plant is its blue-grey coloured lobes, often covered with a light powdery white coating. This natural coating acts as a sun protectant, allowing the plant to tolerate hot full sun conditions.
This variety is extremely slow-growing, but once established it produces regular flushes of flowers and becomes a rewarding plant to grow.
Flowering Months
Buds typically form from November through to March.
Taste
A mild, low-acid fruit with a delicate sweetness.
The lower acidity gives the fruit a purely sweet flavour that is very pleasant to eat.
Ocamponis also has a different texture to most dragon fruit, with noticeable crunchy seeds.
