Brunei Dragon Fruit (purple bloom)- H. stenopterus X H. undatus Germany *

Brunei Dragon Fruit (Purple Bloom) – H. stenopterus × H. undatus

Description:
Brunei Dragon Fruit is a unique hybrid created by Eckard Meier in Germany, combining Hylocereus stenopterus and Hylocereus undatus. This unusual variety is known for its beautiful small purple flowers, which are true night-blooming flowers that open only at night and close again by dawn.

The plant can sometimes produce flower buds in winter, making it an interesting addition for collectors and enthusiasts. Brunei is self-sterile and requires cross-pollination to produce fruit.

The fruit is small with green to yellow skin and white flesh. Although the fruit size is modest, it is prized for its excellent flavour and sweetness.

This variety prefers some protection from harsh sun. In our trials, plants grown in 50% shade performed much better, while those planted in full sun suffered from rot and poor growth. Providing partial shade and good airflow can help the plant thrive.
