Malaysian Purple – A Curious Comparison Begins!

It was brought to our attention that Daley’s Fruit Tree Nursery was selling a Malaysian Purple dragon fruit that appeared different to the one we grow. Naturally, curiosity got the better of us – so I took a 7-hour road trip to pick up a plant and grow it side-by-side with ours for comparison.

At first glance, the growth habits of both plants look quite similar.
Purchased in May 2025, this plant will now be part of an ongoing observation trial.

I'll be documenting growth, flower behavior, fruit characteristics, and any notable differences as the seasons go on. It’s always exciting to dig deeper into variety differences – especially when names overlap but genetics may not.

Care: 

Plant into an excellent quality potting mix to a depth of 2-3 cm 

Your dragon fruit will be marked with an arrow, plant ^ Arrow point up to the sky.

Regular Fertilizer 

Water once the soil has dried out.

Once rooted transfer onto a post.

All items are posted on a Monday Express post, with Australia Post. If Monday is a public holiday they will be sent the Tuesday or the following Monday depending on the destination. We aim to deliver healthy and happy plants :)

All orders are posted on Mondays via Australia Post and include tracking.

• Circumstances outside of our control prevent us from posting as scheduled.

Where an order contains both time-sensitive and non-essential products, we will select the most appropriate postage option to ensure your order arrives safely while keeping shipping costs as affordable as possible.

Once your parcel has been lodged with Australia Post, you will be able to follow its progress using the tracking information provided.
