Step 1 – Purchase Your Flow Super
Purchase aFlow Super – Flow Hive 2+ directly fromFlow Hive Australia.
You have two size options:
🐝 6 Frame Flow Super
Compatible with an8-frame Langstroth brood box.

🐝 7 Frame Flow Super
Compatible with a10-frame Langstroth brood box.

Flow confirms that the 6-frame Super suits an 8-frame brood box, while the 7-frame Super suits a 10-frame brood box.
The Flow Super gives you the clever Flow harvesting system, allowing you to harvest honey directly from the hive when your colony has sufficient honey stores.
Step 2 – We Supply the Bees & Brood Setup
Instead of buying an empty hive and then trying to work out where to source your bees,we can provide the bottom section of your hive already set up with bees.
Depending on which Flow Super you purchase, we can provide the compatible:
- 8-frame brood box and bees for the 6-frame Flow Super $450
- 10-frame brood box and bees for the 7-frame Flow Super $520
- Base board inc.
- Standard flat roof inc.
Once your colony is established and ready, your new Flow Super can be added to the top.
Flow advises that a Flow Super needs an existing brood box, base, queen excluder, inner cover and suitable roof, so it is important to have the complete setup rather than simply purchasing the Super on its own.
Step 3 – Get Your Beekeeping Equipment

Before bringing your bees home, you also need the basic equipment to safely inspect and manage your hive.
We recommend having:
- 🐝 Beekeeping suit
- 🧤 Beekeeping gloves
- 💨 Smoker
- 🔧 Hive tool
- 🐝 Queen excluder
Please have your protective equipment organized before collecting your bees.
Why We Like This Option
This gives you the best of both worlds.
You can purchase the genuine Flow harvesting system directly from Flow, while we help you get started with thetraditional brood box and an established colony of bees underneath it.
It also means you aren't starting with an empty box and hoping bees move in. Flow itself notes that bees rarely simply move into an empty hive; new beekeepers generally need to source a colony through bees, a split or a swarm.
Which Size Should You Choose?
For many backyard beekeepers, the6-frame Flow Super with an 8-frame brood box is a great starting point. Flow describes its 6-frame model as its most popular option because it is more compact and lighter to lift.
For people wanting a larger colony and greater honey capacity, the7-frame Flow Super with a 10-frame brood box provides additional room. Flow estimates approximately18 kg maximum honey capacity for a full 6-frame Super and approximately21 kg for the 7-frame version.

Important: Beekeeping still requires regular hive inspections, pest and disease management and responsible colony management. A Flow Super makes harvesting honey easier, but the bees underneath still need normal beekeeping care.
