Cranberry Hibiscus - Hibiscus acetosella

Description:
Perennial shrub to 2 m with red cranberry leaves that are edible.
Has beautiful pink-red hibiscus flowers
The young leaves are more green and as they age they turn red

Uses:

Flowers are used to colour teas or other drinks 

In Central America, the flowers are combined with ice, sugar, lime juice and water to make a purple lemonade.

The young leaves have a slightly tart flavour and eaten either raw or cooked, they retain their colour. The leaves contain oxalic acid, and should only be eaten once a week or cooked

Care: 

Plant in full sun or partial shade. 

Can be grown from stem cutting or seed

Like rich well-drained soil

Prune hard after flowering to keep it neat and promote further growth and keep moist in hot weather.
