First Hybrid in the Asunta Series
New variety 2023 — first buds observed in December 2024.
created by Edgar Valdivia, a member of the California Rare Fruit Growers organization.
We believe this isn't the True Asunta 1 as evidence sources shows images with fruit having white flesh where our has produced pink. This is still an amazing fruit and this is why we have called it Asunta 1 hybrid.
This variety is the result of a cross between Hylocereus stenopterus × Hylocereus guatemalensis.
Early fruit from this selection was smaller than others in the series. To improve fruit size, Edgar Valdivia intentionally used the large-fruiting Condor variety as a pollination partner in further breeding work.
