Bulbine frutescens – OrangeBulbine
Description:
Bulbine frutescens is a fast-growing perennial succulent known for its cheerful Orange star-like flowers and hardy nature. This evergreen plant is a great choice for drought-tolerant gardens, making it ideal for warm climates and low-water landscapes.
Bulbine looks beautiful planted in pots, borders, or mass plantings, where its bright flowers and fleshy green leaves add colour and texture to the garden. The plant is self-pollinating and flowers regularly in suitable conditions.
Traditionally, the fresh leaf gel has been used similarly to Aloe vera. When the leaf is cut, it releases a clear jelly-like sap that has been used for minor burns, rashes, insect bites, cracked lips, acne, cold sores, mouth ulcers, and dry or cracked skin.
In some traditions, including references from Plantz Africa, an infusion made from the leaves has been used as a herbal drink for coughs, colds, and arthritis. These uses are traditional and not intended as medical advice.
