Okra is a warm-season crop and thrives in heat.

🌱 Planting

  • Sow seeds 10mm deep
  • Space plants 60cm apart
  • Rows 100cm apart
  • Can be direct sown or started in trays

Germination:

  • 12–14 days
  • Ideal soil temp: 23–33°C

🌞 Position & Soil

  • Full sun (minimum 6+ hours daily)
  • Well-drained soil rich in organic matter
  • Improve soil with compost or aged manure before planting

💧 Watering

  • Water when soil is dry ~5cm below surface
  • Deep watering is best
  • Avoid wetting leaves (helps prevent fungal issues)

🌿 Feeding

  • If soil is healthy, little feeding is needed
  • For extra growth:
    • Apply slow-release fertiliser at planting
    • Use liquid fertiliser during flowering/fruiting

✂️ Harvest

  • Ready in 55–65 days
  • Pick pods at 8–10cm long for best flavour
  • Harvest regularly to keep plants producing
