Aromatic / Shampoo ginger- Rhizome

Shampoo Ginger (Zingiber zerumbet) is a striking tropical plant that grows well as an understory planting in food forests or tropical gardens, and also performs beautifully in large pots.

During summer, the plant produces a green basal cone with creamy white flowers emerging from the cone. As the flower ages, the cone gradually turns a vibrant red, creating a very ornamental display.

This plant is widely known as Shampoo Ginger because the cone contains a milky, fragrant liquid that has traditionally been used in many South East Asian cultures as a natural shampoo and hair conditioner.

The roots are also valued in herbal medicine, often ground and used traditionally for a range of ailments.
