Cherimoya (Annona cherimola)
The Cherimoya is a close relative of the sugar apple, rollinia, sweetsop, and soursop — all belonging to the Annonaceae family. Known for their lush, tropical flavour and creamy texture, Cherimoyas are heavy croppers of large fruit with a low seed count and juicy, custard-like flesh.
Cherimoya trees are more cold-tolerant than custard apples (Annona atemoya), making them an excellent choice for growers in cooler subtropical regions.
Among the standout varieties, ‘Fino de Jete’ is widely praised for its smooth skin, rich aroma, and sweet, creamy flavour — often hailed as one of the best-tasting cherimoyas. Another popular type, the Pineapple Cherimoya, offers a delightful sweet-tart balance with tropical notes reminiscent of pineapple.
