Zamerano is a striking dark red, medium-sized dragon fruit with a beautifully rounded shape and rich colouring.
Originally collected in Honduras through a U.S. agricultural university program — which is how it received its name — this variety was later sourced from a Sunshine Coast commercial grower and introduced into our orchard.
Zamerano has proven to be an interesting journey for us. In its early seasons, the fruit was moderate in size and flavour. However, by its third growing season (2024), the fruit significantly improved — larger in size and noticeably better in flavour.
With a diverse range of dragon fruit varieties planted nearby (including a Thi commercial white across the row), we suspect improved cross-pollination played a key role in enhancing fruit quality.

Zamerano has a mild, balanced sweetness.
Flavour notes are comparable to red plum with a subtle hint of blood orange, giving it a slightly citrus lift.
With its deep red colouring, this variety is naturally rich in antioxidants.

Plant into an excellent quality potting mix to a depth of 2-3 cm
Your dragon fruit will be marked with an arrow, plant ^ Arrow point up to the sky.
Regular Fertilizer
Water once the soil has dried out.
Once rooted transfer onto a post.
