Description:
Bien Hoa Red Dragon Fruit – Hylocereus guatemalensis
New Variety 2023
More information coming soon as the plant matures.
Bien Hoa Red is a dragon fruit variety from the genus Hylocereus and species guatemalensis, originally from Guatemala in Central America.
This variety produces exceptional quality fruit with beautiful purple to magenta flesh and round-shaped fruit.
The plant produces white flowers and is self-fertile, making it suitable for home gardens and collectors.
Average fruit size ranges 360–500g, and once established the plant is expected to be a very good producer.
DNA testing shows that this variety shares the same DNA as American Beauty, although subtle differences may appear as the plant matures. We sourced this plant from a Queensland grower and are excited to continue observing how it performs in our climate.
This variety prefers some protection from harsh full sun and cold conditions, particularly while establishing.
