PC1 is a unique jackfruit seedling collected from an old, unmanaged plantation just outside Cairns, Queensland. Despite years without care, the original trees continued to produce quality fruit, making this a particularly interesting selection.
The fruit has a light amount of latex and releases a pleasant rockmelon aroma when opened. Its flavour is outstanding, combining notes of banana, mango and creamy vanilla ice cream. Unlike many soft-fleshed jackfruit varieties that can be overwhelmingly sweet, PC1 has a softer, well-balanced sweetness that makes it enjoyable to eat fresh.
The flesh is an attractive golden-yellow colour with a smooth, tender texture and excellent eating quality. During our taste trials, it was delicious straight from the fruit and also made an incredible homemade jackfruit ice cream.
As this is a seedling-grown selection, each tree will be unique, making it an exciting option for collectors, tropical fruit enthusiasts and anyone interested in discovering exceptional new jackfruit genetics.
