Life on Our Dragon Fruit Farm – A WWOOFing Experience

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to spend time on a working dragon fruit farm, here’s a little glimpse into daily life with us. We love welcoming WWOOFers to our family-run property in Agnes Water, QLD, where 150+ varieties of dragon fruit grow alongside bananas, tropical fruits, flowers, and plenty of companion plants.

We typically work from 8am – 1pm, which means you’ll have plenty of free time in the afternoons to explore and enjoy the area. 🚴 We have a bike available for you to use, and we’re only a short ride away from the beaches and town.

If you don’t have your own transport, the easiest way to get here is by Greyhound bus, which stops nearby.

Your accommodation is a 2-room safari-style tent, set up with access to a bathroom and a basic kitchen. It’s a comfortable and relaxed space where you can enjoy the quiet of the farm while still being close to everything Agnes Water has to offer. 🌞🌴

🌞 A Typical Day on the Farm

Mornings usually start early, with the sun rising and the birds calling. Depending on the season, tasks might include:

  • Planting and propagation – potting up cuttings, sprouting new plants, or setting up trellises.

  • Harvesting fruit and flowers – picking ripe dragon fruit (always an exciting job!) or collecting flowers for orders.

  • Farm care – weeding, mulching, composting, and helping with irrigation.

  • Zero waste projects – dehydrating fruit, composting skins, sprouting heads, and turning leftovers into something useful.

We work with the rhythm of the seasons, so no two days are ever exactly the same.

🌿 Learning Opportunities

WWOOFers don’t just help – they learn! You’ll gain hands-on experience with:

  • Permaculture & polyculture practices

  • Organic fertilising methods (ground and foliar feeding)

  • Sustainable farming with recycled and repurposed materials

  • Companion planting and biodiversity in action

  • The art of growing and caring for dragon fruit, one of the most fascinating tropical crops

It’s not just farm work – it’s a chance to understand the land and the cycles of food production.

🏡 Living with Us

We’re a boutique family farm, so life here is warm, relaxed, and community-oriented. WWOOFers join us in shared meals, often featuring produce straight from the garden. There’s plenty of time to swim at the beach, explore Agnes Water, or just relax under the stars after a day outdoors.

🌏 Why We Love Hosting WWOOFers

For us, WWOOFing is about cultural exchange and connection. We love sharing what we’ve learned over years of farming, and in return we always learn something new from our visitors – whether it’s a recipe, a story from their travels, or a different way of looking at the world.

💚 Join Us

If you’re interested in sustainable farming, tropical fruit, or just want to experience the rhythm of life on a working dragon fruit farm, we’d love to hear from you. Come and get your hands in the soil, enjoy the beauty of nature, and be part of our little farming community.
