Preparing your plants with good nutrition and having your pollination equipment ready can make the busy flowering months much easier. 💨 Why Include a Mini Vacuum?
When you only have a couple of flowers, collecting pollen with a brush can be relatively easy.
When you have dozens—or hundreds—of flowers opening, it becomes a very different job!
A small rechargeable vacuum can make collecting loose pollen much quicker. The collected pollen can then be prepared for use on other flowers or stored appropriately for later pollination.
For growers maintaining multiple varieties, collecting and managing pollen can become an important part of flowering season.
🌧️ Don't Forget About the Weather
One of the biggest challenges during dragon fruit flowering season can be rain.
You can have the perfect flower, plenty of pollen and everything ready to go—and then the weather changes.
This is why we have included biodegradable flower bags in the Pollination Kit.
After pollination, flowers can be covered to provide some protection from rain and insects while pollination takes place.
It's a simple tool, but during wet flowering periods it can be incredibly useful.
🧴 Storing Dragon Fruit Pollen
Sometimes the variety producing pollen isn't flowering on exactly the same night as the variety that needs it.
Being able to collect and store pollen can therefore give growers much more flexibility.
Moisture is one of the things we want to manage when storing pollen, which is why the kit includes desiccant sachets to help keep stored pollen dry.
If you grow multiple varieties, start keeping records of:
Which varieties flower together.
Which varieties produce plenty of pollen.
Which crosses give you good fruit set.
Which varieties consistently produce your best fruit.
Those observations become incredibly valuable over time.

Flowering season can become very busy, very quickly.
Before your first flowers open, organise your pollination equipment and have somewhere dedicated to keep it.
Your brush, pollen collector, applicator, bags and pollen-storage supplies should all be somewhere you can find them quickly.
Because at 9pm when you suddenly realise another 20 flowers have opened, the last thing you want to be doing is hunting through the shed for your pollination brush! 😂
