2024 Queensland Garden Expo

What an incredible experience! The four-day garden expo at Nambour Show Grounds celebrated its 40th year with a wealth of amazing people and products.

The highlight for me wasn't just having our stall in the Kitchen Garden area, but also the opportunity to attend presentations and converse with gardening superstars like Leonie Shanahan, Milli Ross, Sophie Thompson, Tohm Hajncl, Costa, and Megg Miller.

Working alongside Barb for her final garden expo as the Kitchen Garden organizer was a heartfelt experience. The team from Yandina Permaculture Garden, led by Tom, did a fantastic job with the plant arrangements.

Costa's kitchen garden tour was both captivating and informative, while Sophie's eco-friendly tips were eye-opening—did you know fake grass retains more heat than concrete and bitumen?

Looking ahead to next year, we're excited to expand to two sites. This year was a bit crowded with just one site, especially with all the different dragon fruit varieties on display.

Next year we plan to have lots more information for our visitors and images galore. I have also just started working on some special plants for the kitchen garden itself.

All tho the weather was a bit dismal at times with passing showers the happy gardeners made the place shine.

The main question we got asked:

My dragon fruit flowers but doesn't get fruit??

This may be weather dependent. If it rains it could wash off the pollen and all the pollinators may be hiding from the bad weather and not doing there job.
You variety may be self sterile and you may need another variety to cross pollenate the flowers
How long does it take for cutting to produce fruit?
Why doesn't my dragon fruit get fruit after 5 years?
Most of the time these lovely people had been miss informed that they needed no love. They are a rainforest cactus so like good quality soil and mulch.
